You're Taller in The Morning!

Did you know that you're taller when first arising in the morning than you will be the rest of the day? It's true. Your spinal discs, the "shock absorbers" between your vertebrae that are responsible for guiding their movement, are both electric and dynamic.

The spinal discs consist of two parts, an inner gel-like material, which is surrounded and contained by a ligament-like structure. These parts, along with the facet joints work together to control the movement of one vertebra on another for normal spinal motion. And it's strange to consider, but these disks are electric. They contain positive and negative charges which affect the fluid content, and these charges vary according to your movements and resting postures throughout the day. Typically these movements will cause a loss of disc fluid, and by the end of the day you are about two centimeters shorter than you were when you woke up. That's almost an inch!

Since your spine is a dynamic structure, responding to compressive and dynamic forces through the day, it's critical that you ensure proper spinal movement and mechanics. That's where your chiropractor comes in! At Chiropractic Care we utilize spinal manipulation, including Cox Flexion Distraction to allow proper spinal motion which is required for the discs to maintain their health. Improper movement leads to excess stress on the discs and premature deterioration. At Chiropractic Care we can also provide you with home rehabilitative exercises and even dietary supplements that will help to maintain the health of your discs for years to come.
